The process of making a minivan wheelchair and scooter accessible requires the highest
level of engineering and expertise. Our manufacturers take great care to ensure
that your lowered floor minivan meets stringent crash test standards, and, ultimately,
meets your disability needs. Regardless of the chassis (Chrysler, GM, Honda,
or Toyota), you can be sure that your minivan will be sleek, refined, and safe.
Here is how a wheelchair van is converted:
Step 1
The first step is removing the existing seats and interior panels from the chassis.
Exposed surfaces are covered for protection, during the conversion process.
Step 2
While the seats are removed, the vehicle floor is then lowered up to 10" from the
rear axle to the firewall ahead of the front seats. Custom-molded panels are installed
below the original panels so that the fit and finish is seamless.
Step 3
Now the interior is ready for the installation of the ramp. A sturdy, lightweight
aluminum ramp is installed for easy access to the van. See all of our lowered floor minivan
conversion options for examples of the various ramps that are available.
Step 4
The rear bench seat is reinstalled, at which point the driver and front passenger
seats are also reinstalled. However, the driver and front passenger seats
are mounted on raised platforms, which allows them to be easily removed from the
vehicle when required. This enables the user to utilize a multitude of seating
configurations.
Step 5
To camoflauge the lowered floor on the outside of the vehicle, custom-molded ground
effects are added to both the driver and passenger side.
