With the increasing popularity and demand for adaptive sports, an up and coming organization, the Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio (ASPO), was established with the mission in mind to inspire individuals with physical disabilities. ASPO offers opportunities for those with physical disabilities to participate in competitive sports with others throughout Ohio. The organization offers eight different sports for athletes ranging from archery to basketball. This particular nonprofit also promotes health and wellness of those with physical disabilities.M.C. Mobility Systems takes pride in staying active in the community so we became a Gold Sponsor for ASPO’s most recent event, the Power Soccer Charity Game on November 1st. It involved the Cleveland Airport Fire Department versus Team Force, ASPO’s power soccer team, and was a great success. Power Soccer is the first competitive team sport designed for power chair users. The game was played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court at Brecksville Middle School in Cleveland, Ohio with two teams of 4 power chair users kicking a 13-inch soccer ball in an attempt to score points on a goal. The game is similar to the intense action seen in a usual soccer game and has the same energy to match. The event was like nothing the M.C. Mobility team had ever seen before, and it was an impressive showcase of the abilities of these incredible athletes.
One of the major reasons we became so interested in ASPO is because the adaptive sports world continues to develop exponentially as more become aware of the games and its direct benefits to those with physical disabilities. In particular, ASPO has become one of the top adaptive sports organizations in Ohio and continues to grow. We were so grateful to be able to become involved with such a worthy cause. The event showcased the benefits of adaptive sports in a tangible way to not only our company but to the community as well.
