What Is A Bruno Lift/Carrier?

Bruno lifts, or carriers, are mobility equipment installed onto your vehicle that are used to stow and transport your wheelchair, power chair or scooter while you’re on the go. Interior lifts (Joey, Curbsider, Big-Lifter, and Space-Saver) lift and stow your mobility device inside the vehicle, while exterior lifts (Chariot, Out-Sider, Out-Rider and Back-Saver) lift and stow your mobility device outside your vehicle. With both options, the Bruno lift does the heaving lifting and is designed to provide a solution for any lifestyle.


How do I know which lift is right for me?

To determine the best solution for you, two things must be considered: your mobility device and your vehicle. Not all wheelchairs and vehicles are compatible with every Bruno lift. Therefore, it is important to speak with one of our Mobility Consultants before purchasing a vehicle or mobility device if you plan to install a Bruno lift.

Because all wheelchairs, scooters and power chairs have different weights and sizes,  some exceed restrictions and are not compatible with select or all Bruno Lifts. In addition, some Bruno Lifts can only be used with certain types of vehicles. When you speak with one of our Mobility Consultants, provide them with the make and model of your wheelchair/scooter along with the year, make and model of the vehicle you’d like to install the lift into.

Will I be able to use the lift with my scooter AND power chair?

More often than not, Bruno lifts are installed and fit to work with one mobility device. However, contact your local Mobility Center for more information. Our Mobility Consultants are trained to find the best solution for your specific needs.

Can my private insurance cover the cost of a Bruno carrier?

Typically private insurance and Medicare do not cover the cost of vehicle equipment. However, there are funding sources available such as the VA for veterans, Medicaid’s waiver program and Worker’s Compensation. Speak with a Mobility Consultant our view our financing page for more information.


I can’t afford a Bruno lift. Is there funding available?

There are more options today than ever before to help you with mobility equipment for your vehicle. Our Mobility Consultants and customer service representatives are trained to point you in the direction of organizations and agencies that may be able to help you finance your new scooter or power chair carrier lift. Will You purchase my old lift?

We do occasionally purchase used power chair and scooter lifts and carriers. In order to get an accurate quote for your equipment, please bring it to your nearest Mobility Center to have a Mobility Consultant review its condition. Not all used lifts and carriers will be purchased and the Mobility Consultant reserves the right to deny purchase for any reason.


How much will it cost to install a lift that I already own?

The cost of installing a wheelchair or power chair lift that you already own is dependent on several factors. Does it require removal from the current vehicle, base, or hitch? What mobility device is the lift intended for? Does the installation require ordering new parts? What is the serial number on it? Does this installation cost exceed or come close to purchasing a brand new lift that includes a warranty?

How Long will Installation take?

While subject to change, a typical Bruno carrier installation takes anywhere from three to five hours. Installation of Bruno lifts vary depending on the product, vehicle and optional features desired. Exterior lift installation time may be extended, in addition to those formerly mentioned, if a hitch installation is required.


Can you come to my house and install the lift in my driveway?

Due to NMEDA and industry standards we do not offer driveway installation. Our QAP certified technicians install lifts in our shop where they have full access to all of the necessary tools and information in order to ensure a quality installation. However, we can pick up your vehicle from your home and deliver it with the installed lift for a fee associated with the distance traveled.
